Garth Collard, History lecturer at the Linton Village College has built up a fascinating story of life in this Institution, which was host to some Sawston residents. This is a must for those who admire Victorian values.

Monday 23 February - Cambs. Local History Workshop

In Ely Library 10.15 am - 4.30 pm. This is for anyone wishing to learn about any particular aspect of local or family history. In attendance will be Mike Petty, Tom Doig, Beth Davis and Alison Taylor. The full library resources will be available plus help to make use of them. Cost £1 including coffee & tea. If anyone would like to go, and/or share transport, contact Bryan on 01223 833963. Prior reservation must be made for this meeting.

Chris Jakes, Curator of the Cambridgeshire Collection at the Cambridge Central library gives an illustrated talk on the vanished buldings of Cambridge since circa 1950, in the name of "progress"

This talk is given by Peter Filby who recently gave a fascinating account of Cambridgeshire mills.

Thursday June 10th - 'The Bombers are Coming'

A talk by Michael Bowyer. Mike is an internationally known author on the history of aircraft, the preparations for our defence in WWll and most of the bombing incidents in East Anglia. He is a native of Cambridge and as a schoolboy in wartime was able to get first-hand experience of local bombing incidents. He has researched many personal records of the servicemen who were involved.

Richard Mortimer will give us an update on local archaeological finds. Most members will remember his last talk, when we were unwilling to let him go until the pubs closed so it might be advisable to bring your supper!
